Amanda Needs Our Help

Amanda is a 30 year old woman who has had type one diabetes since she was eleven. She has managed to live a somewhat normal and healthy life style. In the last year Amanda has started having more severe issues with her diabetes. She started having hypoglycemia unawareness, a life threatening condition with diabetes when her blood sugars go so low she isn’t aware until they are dangerously low. A pancreas transplant is her only option.

Amanda grew up in Nucla, Co and graduated from Nucla High School. She moved to Grand Junction and started working in the medical field. She loves helping and taking care of others. After working for seven years Amanda and her husband Autumn decided they wanted to start a family. They had their son, Toryn, shortly after. Amanda had many struggles during her pregnancy yet both Amanda and Toryn did great.

Amanda and her family relocated to Denver, CO for a few years then moved to Australia for her husband’s work. Two years ago they made their way back to the States to good ole Texas. In November 2015 Amanda’s husband passed away unexpectedly. Amanda and her little boy then relocated back to her home state; Colorado. Amanda worries on a daily basis what may happen to her and more importantly how it will affect her son. Here’s hope for the future.

Transplants are lifesaving but financially draining. Even with insurance, Amanda is facing very high expenses. She will have travel expenses driving an hour each way to the hospital for testing, surgery, follow ups and any other necessary treatment. She will be in the hospital for a minimum of 6 days after her transplant, and then she will need a caregiver for 24hrs a day for 4-6 weeks post-surgery. The biggest expense post-transplant expense is for the costly immunosuppressant medications that Amanda will have to take for the rest of her life. Between meals, gas, care, medications and deductibles Amanda needs help.

To help with the financial burden of Amanda’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the South-Central Pancreas Transplant Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for transplant-related expenses only.
