Family and friends of Amanda Brosa are raising money for her heart and kidney transplant on Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a out of state Multi Organ Transplant at University of Washington. Amanda has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax deductible for contributors and will only be used to cover medical and related expenses.

Amanda’s Story

Amanda is a mother, daughter in law, grandmother and friend from Molalla OR who’s been bravely fighting a failing heart and in kidney failure (stage4) for 11 years. Every day brings new challenges, from tests, travel for hospital stays to fatigue so severe basic tasks become monumental. Despite the odds, Amanda remains hopeful—eager to embrace all the moments life still has to offer like enjoying her role as a grandma.

 Amanda’s issues have been compounded because her local transplant center (OHSU) cannot handle the complexities of her case.  She needs to travel from Portland Oregon to Seattle Washington for her transplant. That would be tough but doable were it not for the need to stay in Seattle WA close to University of Washington for AT LEAST 3-6 months post transplant and MUST have a 24/7 caregiver/Driver

Why We Need Your Help

Transplant surgery offers a second chance at life, but the cost is staggering. Between the procedure, hospital stay, post-op medications, and travel expenses for the out-of-town transplant center, we face:

Surgical and hospital fees: There are covered by insurance

Post-op care and immunosuppressants: : These are covered by insurance

Travel and lodging near University of Washington and living expenses during recovery are estimated BY the University: $23,000 (18,000 for the year 2014) This will not for flying between Seattle and Portland. We will be driving. One of the biggest costs is housing for Amanda and her required caregiver. Anyone one with a condo or rental in Seattle? 

Our goal is $25,000 to cover these essentials and give Amanda the best possible shot at a healthy future.

Amanda is a verd hard worker and was the main breadwinner and support for her children their entire lives. Now she is a loving grandmother to her first 3 grandkids. Her home has invariably been the safe home for numerous children in times of need of a safe place to land, shoulder to cry on or a good healthy, hot meal.

Amanda has always been the first person to jump in and help when she sees a person in need She and her husband held music festivals just outside Estacada Oregon where people from all over the world came to help raise money for people in need. These family and community friendly festivals were for a child with cancer, and anti bully campaign, to name a few. The festivals only stopped when covid prevented them and Amanda started having serious health issues. Even still she rescued goat and other farm animals, giving them a loving home.

She has held toy drives and fundraiser wherever she has lived to give back to the community.

Here is the medical story:

Amanda was born with a heart murmur. In 1984 she was the lone survivor that took her mother, baby brother, infant cousin and uncle. this left her in need of a jaw reconstruction and constant 24/7 care.

In 2010 she contracted pneumonia that attacked her heart causing cardiac arrhythmia and myopathy. She had to have an LVAD (left ventricular assist device), with heart transplant in 2011.

The medications caused her kidneys to fail (stage 4 kidney diseases, 2024) Also in 2024 Amanda a stent placed (angina vasospam). Her heart started to fail and her heart needed resectioning. Type 2 diabetes was discovered in 2025. She started having even more issues with her heart where they inserted the stent, causing that stent to be “resented”.

All of that is has led us to this point in need of a new heart and kidney transplant. OHSU in Portland Oregon (which is the closest medical facility) can’t provide Amanda with anything but the most basic care because of her complex transplant needs. The heart team that has been with her throughout this long journey, has transferred her care to University of Washington Medical center.
