Amanda Scott

Hello my name is Amanda Scott, I am 30 years old. I have interstitial lung disease (ILD), and need a double lung transplant. This is my road to transplant story

I am a proud mother of two amazing kids, Connor who is 8 y.o, Mackenzee who is 2y.o.. we have very smart energetic curious funny amazing kids that are unfortunately suffering through not having me around.

I live in Ocala Florida with my fiancé of 10 years, Tyler, and his two kids. My family and I lived a pretty normal life Tyler and I worked full-time I worked as a cleaner and a childcare worker at a local gym and he works as a plumber and electrician. We loved to spend our down time going to springs, playing with the kids at the park, walking nature trails and spending quality time outdoors together.

On August 15th of 2021 Mackenzee was born. It was the happiest time of my life! Little did I know how much my life was about to change. In November of 2021, I tried returning to work at the gym, but I could not because of becoming too short of breath after doing the basic requirements of my job like many working parents I ignored my health because I thought I was still recovering from having my daughter and that it would get better. When I didn’t get better, I decided that I would go to the emergency room. I thought that they would run me some tests, give me antibiotics, and I get back to you life as normal.

Normal life never returned after several hospitalizations by primary doctor referred me to a lung specialist in Gainesville Florida who then referred me to UF health pulmonary team where I was correctly diagnosed with (ILD) I was devastated!

In the beginning of November of 2022, my ability to breathe became worse, and I was placed on oxygen. I had officially began to lose the ability to do normal things I want love to do for and with my children and fiancé. I am a Hands-On mom and not being that for my family has truly been the hardest part of my lung disease.

On June 29th 2023 I was admitted to UF health hospital and I’m being evaluated for a double lung transplant. What I receive a transplant and have been discharged from the hospital the transplant team requires me to stay locally in Gainesville area during that time I will have daily outpatient Labs, physical therapy, and clinical visits to ensure my new lungs are happy and healthy!

My fiancé will be my primary caregiver, and we’ll have to stay with me to take me to the appointments do any heavy lifting that I cannot do and make sure that I take my medicine correctly and have an emotional support person as I adjust to my “new normal”.

While we are staying in Gainesville my children will be taken care of by a friend of the family so that my children have stability while we make sure that I am healthy.

The money raised through “Help Hope Live” will help us afford a hotel that we will need to stay in for the first two months by the hospital, medical bills not covered by my insurance, awesome monthly expenses due to my fiancé having to take a temporarily leave from his job to take care of me, travel cost, also a new vehicle to have a reliable transportation to and from doctor’s appointments because we live in Ocala but will need transportation to Gainesville because keeping my lungs healthy will take a lifetime of specialized Care with Shands and their team.
