New Heart New Hope for Amber

Seven years ago, Amber had to have a heart pump placed in her for heart failure. This was to be a bridge for her until she became eligible to receive a heart transplant. Amber, being a survivor of childhood leukemia faced this new problem head on.

In February she was flown to University Hospital in Salt Lake City for treatment for a bleed in her stomach, best handled by the Doctors at the University of Utah Hospital and the LVAD (heart ) team.

While in Salt Lake the Heart Team submitted a request to move Amber up on the priority list to receive a heart. As Amber and her parents waited to hear the decision from UNOS to move her priority status they prepared to go home to Idaho. She was prepared to wait even longer.

Before they headed home news came that a heart that would be a match for her became available.

Now we are asking for your help in other ways. Amber must stay in the SLC area for six to nine months – The monetary costs are high. Insurance pays for some but not all of the expenses. Housing . food, transportation. co-pays, anti-rejection medication and more, for her and one parent to help her with all of this is high and a lot is out of pocket expense for them.

Please help Amber and her family get through this. She is an inspiration and will continue to be so to many people. Recovery will be a long and hard road, but she and her family are willing to walk it.
