Amber Brady

This is Amber Brady, a vivacious 16-year-old who loves hanging out with her friends, playing on her phone and watching 80’s and 90’s television shows. She has an older sister in college, a four-year-old brother and a two-year-old sister. Amber is incredibly loving and nurturing and an old soul at heart.

In November 2013, Amber went to the doctor for what we thought was a UTI, but it turned out to be much more. Testing revealed that she had a mass the size of a small watermelon wrapped around her right ovary, tube, bladder and kidney—there was also a smaller mass on her left ovary. Both masses were removed, along with her right tube and ovary. Pathology determined that Amber has ovarian cancer. In January and February of this year, Amber completed egg retrieval on her remaining ovary. This will insure that this lively sixteen-year-old will one day hopefully be able to have children of her own. Luckily they were able to obtain eight mature eggs and freeze them for her future. Her next surgery is scheduled for the end of March will she will have her additional tube and ovary removed. We are hoping they won’t have to do a complete hysterectomy. While she faces additional surgeries and treatments,we are looking forward to a happy, healthy young lady maturing into the grown woman Amber was meant to be.

Even with insurance, Amber and her family will have many uninsured illness-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, egg retrieval and storage, travel to and from Sloan-Kettering in NYC for treatment and surgeries and some childcare. This presents a financial challenge the Brady’s/ Ziemba’s cannot meet alone.

To help offset such expenses, a fundraising campaign in Amber’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for more than 30 years. In 2000, they expanded their mission to include those who have sustained a catastrophic injury or illness. All contributions are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southeast Catastrophic Illness Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for illness-related expenses only.
