Help Anakin go on Adventures with a wheelchair accessible vehicle and portable oxygen concentrator!

Anakin has been diagnosed with Menkes Disease. When he was born, he seemed like a typical infant
but at 2 months old he had his first known seizure. His seizures would lower his oxygen and his lips would turn blue, he was also unresponsive. Anakin had another major seizure when he was 4 months old he was life flighted to Salt Lake City where he was diagnosed with Menkes Disease. Menkes Disease is an often fatal copper disorder. His body doesn’t absorb copper correctly. Anakin is wheelchair bound and has the mentality of a 2 month old. When away from the house, Anakin requires a lot of medical equipment, we cannot fit everything into our current vehicle so we have to rent something bigger. Last year we ended with three road trips to Salt Lake City for medical treatment and two flights to Ohio for his copper treatment. Insurance does not reimburse car rentals or expenses for experimental treatments.

Anakin creates his own path. He has shown just because he is told he wont be able to do somethings
because of his diagnosis doesn’t mean he can’t. Anakin has learned to roll from his sides, wave, vocalize,
and communicate with people. His smile and laugh will bright up anyone’s day.

Because of his diagnosis, Anakin faces many challenges. He is physically and mentally delayed. He has
been struggling with ongoing seizures and is currently on medication and the keto diet which seems to
be somewhat controlled at this time. Anakin receives physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational
therapy. He currently has a wheelchair and is not expected to ever learn to walk.

Anakin is fundraising for a vehicle with handicap modifications. We travel often from Montana to Salt
Lake City for treatment and his keto diet. We have to rent a vehicle because ours are not big enough for
all of his equipment. When we travel Anakin has to bring his oxygen, oximeter, cough assist, suction
machine, nebulizer machine, and CPAP, feeding tube supplies along with other essentials. We also travel
to Ohio for copper injection treatments.

It would be very helpful to have a wheelchair accessible vehicle so Anakin would be able to be placed in
the wheelchair and bundled up in Montana winters vs taking him out of his seat into a wheelchair and
then bundling him up. As he gets bigger we will need a place to change his diapers because there is no
room in public places. Currently, we cannot go as a family grocery shopping because with his wheelchair
in the back, we have no room for anything. We are limited as to what we can do as a family.
