Andrew and Amber Reynolds

Family and friends of Andrew and Amber Reynolds are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.

It is heartbreaking to watch loved ones suffer, to lose the ability to work, and enjoy family activities. To be able to do simple tasks that we all take for granted like walking up stairs to get a drink of water, or to be able to do things for your family such as the laundry or mowing the lawn.  Unfortunately, my family is doing just that and I’m sharing our story of my husband and our oldest child in hope to raise money for a heart transplant and medical expenses for my husband Andrew and the future transplant and medical expenses for our daughter Amber. 

Our story began in early 2020, my husband Andrew at the time was 44 years old, and was told he had the heart of an 80 year old man He was diagnosed with a very rare inherited gene mutation (lamin a/c) that is causing many medical issues, but the most serious issue is the damage that is happening to his heart.  He has heart failure with mid-range ejection fraction, in simple terms, the left side of his heart is getting stiff and cannot pump his blood. There is no cure, no medication to help with this.  His only option is a heart transplant. This is a very expensive lifesaving procedure, about 1 million dollars to start with, then all of the lifetime medications that can cost up to $5,000 a month.

He wants to live to see his 4 children grow up, to see their life choices, to see them married, to be a grandpa, to enjoy growing old with his wife, to enjoy the little things again.

Being an inherited gene mutation, all our children had a 50/50 chance of having this. All had to have DNA testing to see if they did have it, and Amber (age 25) our oldest inherited it.  She is already experiencing medical issues caused from the mutation. She is also in heart failure and recently had a dual chamber ICD (pacemaker/defibrillator) implanted.  We do not know how long before she will also need a heart transplant, but it is in her future.

It is not easy just starting out in life, to have these huge life-threatening medical issues. The medical costs and all the limitations on simple daily activities. I am hoping to help ease the stress of the cost, so she can focus on her health and getting the best care possible and to be ready for a transplant when the time comes.

Andrew and Amber both want to be free from the stress and pain that comes with heart failure and looming heart transplants, but these are not problems that you can hide from. They need to face them head on with strength and support.
