Andy Rau

My name is Andy Rau. On August 27, 2024, my life changed forever. That day, I was diagnosed with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). My kidneys no longer function on their own. I now survive through peritoneal dialysis while waiting for a kidney transplant. I do the dialysis at home, which means using a catheter in my abdomen to filter waste and fluids that my kidneys can’t handle. Every night, I’m connected to a machine for 9 hours while I attempt to sleep. The machine keeps me alive, but it also dictates my schedule and limits my freedom in ways most people never have to think about. Despite these challenges, I refuse to give up hope. I’m fighting for more time with my family and friends. Unfortunately, the financial burden of this fight is heavy too. Uncovered medical bills, medication, supplies for dialysis, travel to appointments, and the ongoing costs of preparing for a kidney transplant take a toll on me and my family. The illness has taken so much from me, but I am holding onto hope…hope for a transplant, hope for freedom from the machine, and hope for a healthier future. I can’t do it alone. Your kindness and support mean more than I can put into words. Every message, prayer, and donation reminds me that I’m not fighting this alone. I am reaching out with humility and courage and asking for your support.
