Lung Transplant Fund in Honor of Angel Bahena

Family and friends of Angel Bahena are raising money through Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for 38 years. The funds raised will help with the medical expenses associated with the lung transplant surgery that Angel Bahena needs to have to be able to extend his life.

To family, friends, and even strangers reading this, I am writing to you today asking for your help. Within this last year, my life completely changed the day that I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. For those of you that may not know, Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) is the most common type of pulmonary fibrosis. It is a disease that causes scarring of the lungs. The scarring that I have in my lungs is non-reversible and it causes stiffness in the lungs which makes it difficult to breathe. I was recently put on oxygen, which I have to wear 24hrs a day, to be able to complete simple everyday tasks. My only hope to extend my life after being diagnosed with IPF would be to receive a lung transplant.

As of March 9, 2022, I have been officially put on the “active list” for a lung transplant. After many months of testing and countless appointments, I move on to the next phase…waiting for a suitable donor. Organ transplant procedures are lifesaving but the cost can be overwhelming. I am facing very high out-of-pocket expenses including the astronomical cost of post-transplant anti-rejection medications that I need to take for the rest of my life, lab fees, co-pays and more.
