Anna Young

Growing up in Bolton, Massachusetts, Anna enjoyed a very active life. When she was 8 years old, she began experiencing difficulty breathing while playing soccer. Year after year, breathing became more and more difficult. What once used to limit her ability to compete in sports, soon limited her ability to function. By college, Anna’s struggle to breathe was daily and becoming more severe with hospitalizations every month.
Despite her declining health, Anna graduated from the University of San Diego with a degree in Communication and Sociology.

Eventually diagnosed with a rare and progressive form of severe obstructive and restrictive pulmonary disease, the origin of which remains unknown. In her quest to simply breathe, Anna has researched and explored countless respiratory and holistic therapies over the last few decades. Life has been about survival. Managing her illness has become her full-time job. She has traveled all over the country and to Europe seeking answers and relief. A bilateral lung transplant is now her best option.

With new lungs, Anna has the opportunity to restore her quality of life. To make this happen, Anna needs your help.

The double-lung transplant is expected to cost approximately $1.1 million. And that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, Anna still needs to raise over $250,000 to cover transplant costs, follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications needed for the rest of her life. These medications may cost anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000 per month, and they are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.

To ease this financial burden, a fundraising campaign has been established in Anna’s honor with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years.
