St. Mary’s Parishioner Needs Donations for Lung Transplant

Update: Anne received the gift of life, a new set of lungs, on March 22. She is still in the hospital, but is getting slightly stronger and healthier each day. Your gifts are crucial to helping with her uninsured expenses.

Anne Mussett is a parishioner at St. Mary’s and lives in Lago Vista. Anne is a registered nurse and is the main caregiver for her elderly mother.

Unfortunately, Anne needs a double lung transplant. Anne was diagnosed with primary pulmonary hypertension that has caused life-threatening damage to her lungs. Because of this, she needs the help and prayers of family, friends and the community.

Anne is on oxygen 24 hours a day and her only medical option is a lung transplant. She was evaluated at University Transplant Center in San Antonio and is now on the waiting list for a lung transplant for a better quality of life. Her family and friends have the task of raising funds to assist with the monumental expenses needed for the surgery and after-care.

Not many families have the resources to meet the financial obligations of transplantation such as traveling expenses for pre- and post-surgery evaluations, as well as considerable expenses required to stay in San Antonio during the recovery period. At times like this, the help of friends, family and community is greatly needed and appreciated to make the outcome successful.

To assist her with these out-of-pocket expenses, a fundraising campaign in Anne’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Central Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
