Help Anthony Breathe Again: A Fundraising Campaign for Life-Saving Lung Transplant

Hello, my name is Anthony D. Slusser. I am 53 years old and battling a life-altering disease known as Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). This progressive, incurable condition was diagnosed in March 2022 and has reduced my lung function to less than 50%. The only way forward—a chance at life—is a lung transplant.

I’ve always cherished my role as a husband to my best friend and prayer warrior, Glenda, and as a grandfather to my amazing grandson. Together, we’ve created memories fishing, hunting, and navigating life’s challenges. My grandson looks up to me for advice, and I treasure every moment we spend together.

For 13 years, I proudly worked as the Director of Facilities with American Campus Communities, helping develop and maintain student housing facilities across the U.S. However, my declining health forced me to make the heart-wrenching decision to go on disability in May 2024, a step that deeply affected my identity and financial stability.

Living with IPF means living with constant oxygen therapy, fatigue, and the side effects of medications that aim to slow the disease’s progression. Simple activities like walking around the block have become impossible without assistance. I avoid taking photos with my oxygen because I want people to see me, not my disability.

Why We Need Your Help

I’ve partnered with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization, to raise $20,000 to cover the immense financial burden of a lung transplant and its associated costs. These funds will go toward:

• Out-of-pocket transplant expenses
• Post-surgery medications and rehabilitation
• Monthly medical insurance premiums (which increased after transitioning to disability)
• Copays for Doctor visits, surgeries, and essential medical equipment

Thanks to an early diagnosis by Dr. Nazir at Breath Oklahoma, I’ve been connected to one of the nation’s best transplant teams at Integris Health Heart Hospital. Their expertise gives me hope for a full recovery and the chance to get back to living my best life.
