Anthony Zabala

Dear Friends of Anthony,

Some of you know Anthony from his job at J.D. Byrdier where he helped you find the right vehicle, or maybe you know him from church, or have run into him around town when he is out and about with his beloved wife, Corina, and grandchildren, four-year-old little Corina and Andrew. Anthony is an amazing husband, father and grandfather and he lives for his family.

Five years ago, Anthony was diagnosed with nonalcoholic liver cirrhosis (NASH). His health has deteriorated over time and now he is unable to work and has been told that his only chance at survival is to have a liver transplant. Anthony is now on the active waiting list at the University of North Carolina Hospitals – someone else’s tragedy will become Anthony’s blessing when he receives this “gift of life.” His wife, Corina, has cut her hours as a waitress at Tequila’s to become his support person and caregiver which leaves the family with only one small income.

Even with insurance, Anthony will have many uninsured transplant-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits, travel and temporary relocation to be near the transplant center and the costly immunosuppressant medications that he will need to take for the rest of his life. Anthony, Corina and family have an uphill financial battle that they cannot meet alone.

To help with some of his uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in Anthony’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All contributions are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Northwest Liver Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant expenses only.
