Family and friends of Ari Jarrett are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with Catastrophic Illness.Ari was born prematurely with multiple skeletal anomalies which resulted in damage to and malformation of his spinal cord. He is unable to stand or walk, he suffers from chronic lung disease, and is dependent upon a g-tube for nutrition. Ari has had multiple surgeries and hospital stays and will be in and out of the hospital likely for the rest of his life, but more importantly we want you to know that Ari is incredibly independent and internally motivated. He is a violinist and is playing multiple wheelchair sports through Kennedy Krieger Institute, including basketball, track, and swimming. Ari was the proud recipient of the Mo Gabba Award in his first year of school, earning the respect and admiration of his teachers and school staff when he kept up with all his classroom activities, often working three times as hard to participate physically, and confidently shared his New Year’s resolution was to “climb a mountain.”We are hosting this campaign for the purpose of supporting Ari in his wish to live as independently as possible and, to that end, we are seeking the funds that would be necessary to make his life more comfortable at home, specifically by converting his bathroom to an ADA bathroom that he can access independently or with assistance from his service dog, Rocket.

Ari spent the majority of this past summer in the hospital undergoing and recovering from surgery and will have additional surgery in the near future. Despite this challenge he is determined to keep up with his peers as much as possible and he wishes to be as independent as his health and environment will allow. He is a devoted Ravens and WWE fan, he loves to play video games, and every weekend he is at swimming, basketball, and tennis practice.

There are no insurance benefits to cover the costs of renovations to Ari’s bathroom, and the estimated cost is $25,000. As he gets older, it is hard to overstate the importance of giving him the ability to take care of himself and have as much independence as possible—which is what every child should have no matter their ability level.
