Ashley Martucci

When Ashley was 12 years old she was diagnosed with an ultra-rare and disabling disease, Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP). The disease progressively turns muscle and ligaments into bone preventing or limiting mobility and functionality in the person. Currently there is no cure for this disease.

Due to the progression of the disease, Ashley must now rely on a power wheelchair to navigate her world. Notwithstanding these physical challenges, Ashley is determined and refuses to let it hinder her dreams and ambitions. Ashley is currently enrolled full time in college and planning to get a Masters Degree in library sciences with the ultimate goal of becoming a librarian and living independently.

Living with a disability comes with enormous costs. Simple tasks like using stairs, leaving her home or driving become monumental challenges without necessary modifications to the home and vehicle. These medical modifications are expensive but crucial for a person with a disability to lead a productive and independent life.
