Barbara Mowrey

Almost three years ago Barbara was admitted to ICU barely able to breathe. She was diagnosed with severe Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) – stage 4. Today, Barbara’s lungs function at only 23% and she is on oxygen 24/7. She has been told that her only chance at a healthy life is to have a lung transplant. During this time Barb has kept a positive attitude (which is more than I can say for myself at times). She gets out as much as her lungs will allow and sometimes even when they don’t.

Barb was born on December 5, 1971, four months premature and weighed only 1 1/2 pounds. Needless to say, she is fighter! She has four wonderful kids, Daniel, Randie, Theo and Devin, three awesome grandkids, four-legged kids, Dozer and Gracie and of course the greatest wife in the world — me!

Barb was a truck driver for 15 years and wants more than anything to return to her passion for the road. Her dream after transplantation is — to be able to walk without oxygen, to play with our three grandkids, to ride a bike, to hike, to swim and just be active.

Even with insurance, Barb will have many uninsured transplant-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits and the costly anti-rejection medications that she will need to take for the rest of her life.
