My Name is Barbara Whitcomb. I am a 53-year-old who was diagnosed in 2019 with a rare autoimmune disease (Scleroderma) that damaged both lungs.

Two years ago in 2022, I developed pulmonary hypertension. Now due to lung damage and pulmonary hypertension, I need a double lung transplant to stop the disease from damaging my heart.

I enjoy working, reading and spending time with my family and grandchildren. I am a warm, friendly, and caring person who loves helping others.

Since being diagnosed, I am not able to do the things that I used to. Daily tasks have become difficult. When covid-19 happened, I had to take a job where I could work from home. I was placed on oxygen in October of 2023 due to severe shortness of breath, fatigue, and coughing.

Pulmonary hypertension has increased and has caused stress on the right side of my heart.

I am fundraising to help cover medication costs not covered by my insurance, lodging and travel to access treatment.

This transplant will help me breathe again without the aid of oxygen. With This transplant I don’t have to worry about limitations. I will be able to walk outside in the heat without gasping for air. I will spend more time with my family and grandchildren. I intend to travel and help others who need donations because others have helped me on my journey.
