Barbara Williams

I, Barbara L.Williams, am a 63 year old retiree who underwent a double lung transplant in September of 2015 after having lived with Sarcoidosis of the lungs since I was approximately 28 years old.

At age 59 my doctors advised that the disease within my lungs was no longer controlled with maintenance medications and had spread to both lungs creating the need for a transplant. The lung transplant surgery was successful, but the stress of the surgery resulted in unresolved acute kidney injury causing a diagnosis of End-stage Renal Disease within three months of the lungs transplant. Prior to the original 2014 diagnosis of needing a lung transplant, I was living a life dream of working with pre-school children in a child care environment. I was 50% owner of a child care start-up business that provided care for children 3 months to 12 years old. I loved working with the children and their parents to ensure each child received the required foundational building blocks to reach his/her maximum potential. Because of my love for the children I continued to work and teach even when wearing oxygen tanks 24/7 until I was advised to quit because of medical and physical challenges.

I have spent many years teaching, coaching, mentoring and helping children through my Church Ministry, family and neighborhood. I have a dream of one day being able to return to work with children of all ages with hopes of leaving a positive imprint in their lives.

I have been approved for the Kidney Transplant Listing but need financial help. Even with insurance, pre-transplant and post-transplant evaluations, medications and transportation costs are expensive.
