Benjamin Ballard

Benjamin “Ben” Ballard is a son, brother, uncle, nephew, friend, correctional officer, artist and in kidney failure. He is in need of a kidney transplant and has been undergoing evaluation at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas.

Ben has Dent’s Disease, a rare genetic kidney disorder characterized by increased levels of calcium and protein in the urine, kidney calcifications (Nephrocalcinosis), recurrent episodes of kidney stones (Nephrolithiasis) and chronic kidney disease.

Ben has suffered throughout his life with continual infections and kidney stones.

Ben was 17 when we were first told that his condition was not improving and a kidney transplant may be necessary. His kidney function continued to decline despite all measures. At the age of 25, he was informed he couldn’t put off the procedure any longer and was referred to Methodist Hospital in Houston.

Ben continues to serve his community as he waits for a donor. Ben is a warrior who continues to have a strong desire to live life to the fullest.

Transplants are life-saving, but also extremely expensive. Even with insurance, Ben will face many out-of-pocket costs, including travel to and from the transplant center, co-pays, deductibles, and the costly anti-rejection medications he will have to take for the rest of his life. All of this presents a challenge he cannot meet without your help.
