Our Beloved Benjamin (B.J) Del Toro Needs Your Help

Benjamin’s 12 year journey with Viral Cardiomyopathy, the result of a common cold virus that lingered and attacked his heart, has come to the critical point that his doctors have agreed that a life-saving Heart Transplant is his only chance for survival.

To help with the financial burden we are asking friends and family to help with a fundraising campaign that has been established in his honor through Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more then 35 years. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law. Contributors can be sure donations will be used to pay or reimburse medical and related expenses.

The expenses related to his transplant are very high. Even with insurance there are many expenses that must be covered out of pocket. Some of these include co-pays, deductibles, expenses leading up to transplant, travel to and from the transplant center, relocation at the time of transplant, the actual transplant and after care. Benjamin will be on a life-time of expensive anti-rejection medications. The out of pocket for the transplant alone is in excess of $550,000.00 and one anti rejection medication is up to $1,000.00 monthly. This is where we need your help.

Benjamin is a strong man of faith, loving son, uncle and good friend to many. Has a laugh so contagious you begin to laugh before you know what’s so funny. He is always optimistic and the first to help when someone is in need. Benjamin lives his best life everyday unfortunately, his life has been limited due to the weakening state of his heart. For the past year he has been dependent on a Milrinone pump 24/7 and is no longer able to do many things we all take for granted. He is vulnerable to even the slightest infection or cold, and has been hospitalized multiple times over the last few years. Once he receives the life-saving transplant, Benjamin looks forward to spending time with friends and family, watching his niece grow up, traveling and go back to attending his beloved Astro’s games.
