Help HOPE Live for Bill Allen

January 2025 Update

Hello friends!

We cannot thank you all enough for your donations from before. We can’t believe we have passed the two year mark since our lives were changed so horribly. By three months after the car accident that started all of this, Dad was awake and alert, speaking well and able to move with concerted effort. We were filled with hope and excitement for a full recovery! Then he had a series of health crises, including a stroke which left him without speech and very little movement. He is still awake and alert, but now his recovery is much more serious than it was just after the accident. We don’t know what the future looks like, but we aren’t giving up. People do recover from such serious strokes, but they need extensive and intensive therapy.

I know the world is a wild place right now, and we are all facing hardship on an individual and group level. I had intended to relaunch this fundraiser in the new year to ease from the strain of holiday expenditures, but disaster has struck with the LA fires, so I know everyone is extra tight financially right now. Anything you or your friends would want to share so we can continue to get dad the alternative care insurance does not cover, would be so beyond appreciated. He was finally able to get his tracheostomy tube removed, and thus moved from the subacute to post-acute care level. We have still not been able to move to a skilled nursing facility closer to home due to insurance bureaucracy, but we are trying.

It’s just been mom and I working on making everything happen. I said goodbye to my life in LA and moved back up to Philo to better support them (and for the betterment of my own life.) Mom is still with him every day, having lived away from her home with an incredibly generous friend for two years now. I go down to either join or spell her every couple weeks. Visits from friends are rare, we are guessing it is hard and people don’t know what to say or how to handle the situation. We understand. It’s a hard thing indeed, but we all so appreciate the visits when they do come, my dad most of all. Never in my life have I wanted a sibling or partner more, but I guess it’s just our karma for this life to be in the trenches alone in this. But of course the love and support we receive from our friends and family is always there warming our backs, so we are never truly alone.

Sending so much love everyone as we collectively battle through the fire as the US Empire falls and what are hopefully the death throes of the old age, and birth pains of the new. May your lives be blessed and may we find joy within the madness!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My family is finishing our fourth month of the worst nightmare we’ve ever had… and it’s one that doesn’t end with sunrise each morning. On December 29th, 2022, my parents’ truck went off the road near their Philo home in Northern California, and crashed into a row of trees. Thankfully my mother was largely unscathed, but my father was badly bruised, broke one clavicle, suffered a fracture to his skull and severe brain trauma.
He was airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital where he spent three weeks in the ICU deep in a coma from his traumatic brain injuries. It was the worst three weeks of our lives, seeing him in such a devastating state, completely unresponsive and unstable, with no idea what was going to happen. (click “see all” for the rest.)
The doctors deemed from his MRI that he had frontal lobe and mild axonal damage. Thankfully our dogged fixation on his recovery was rewarded and eventually he was stable enough to move to a sub-acute facility.
~Daddy Details~ Anyone who knows my dad understands how invaluable he is. His articles on many worldly topics can be found in various publications, he writes beautiful poetry, is a talented orator, a scholar of all things esoteric and profound, and a skilled woodworker and artist. He has dedicated so much of his life to helping create a peaceful and just world.
As a husband and father he is so loving and sweet. He is funny, witty, passionate, hard working, and a lover of coffee and chocolate. He has endured and overcome so much hardship in his life, and my heart breaks thinking about how much pain he is in right now.
Thank you so much to anyone who takes the time to read this. Even if you can’t donate financially, all prayers and support are appreciated, and if you are so inclined, please share this with those in your life.
It is terrible seeing my mama unable to really talk with the love of her life and partner of 40 years, but I have Faith he will be with us fully again soon! There’s no alternative!
From the deepest trenches of my heart, Olivia #BlessingsForBillAllen
