Bill Troutman

Dear Friends and Family,

I am writing to you today about my loving husband, Bill Troutman. At the young age of 42, Bill suffered his first heart attack. Since that time Bill has suffered several more heart attacks, has had numerous procedures done to his heart, three open heart surgeries and a pacemaker-defibrillator implanted. In 2007 Bill was diagnosed with Lymphoma and went thru chemotherapy while putting him into remission, the drugs were very toxic to his heart. At that point he was in end stage heart failure.

Based on the recommendations from Bill’s doctors at the Hospital of The University of Pennsylvania, this past June, Bill had his fourth open heart surgery and was implanted with an LVAD (left ventricular assist device). We are hoping that this device will give him the time he needs until he is able to receive a life-saving heart transplant. This is where your help is desperately needed.

As you can imagine, the cost of a life-saving heart transplant is very high. We must begin to plan for these expenses now. Even with insurance, funding this surgery is a monumental task. There are many expenses that are not covered and must be paid out of pocket. Some of these are deductibles, co-pays, medications, travel to and from the hospital, and at the time of transplant we will need to temporarily relocate to be close to the hospital. Bill will also be on a life-time of anti-rejections medications.

In order to ease the financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Bill’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Mid-Atlantic Heart Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
