Bill Survived an Accident and Needs Our Help

We are writing on behalf of our father, Bill Wong, who taught my sister and I to be the best people we can be and to always respect those we encountered, for everyone is fighting their own battle. Now, our family is fighting its own battle. In October 2013, my father was involved in a devastating vehicle accident in China. He suffered a life-changing C5 spinal cord injury. He is paralyzed with no movement from the shoulders down. After seven months in hospitals in China, he is back in California, and needs extensive rehabilitation.

We are working with Social Workers at Stanford Hospital to get my father into an adequate rehabilitation facility. Insurance coverage is minimal and our mother will need to be his primary caregiver and likely will not be able to return to work. Our family is facing extraordinary out of pocket expenses including medical and rehabilitation expenses, and costs for assistive devices, home modifications, and a handicap accessible vehicle.

To help offset such expenses, a fundraising campaign in Bill’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. In 2000, they expanded their mission to include those who have sustained a catastrophic injury. All contributions are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southwest Spinal Cord Injury Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for injury-related expenses only.
