Binita Poudyal needs a lung transplant and needs your help.

Binita Poudyal is originally from Nepal and has lived in Elmhurst, New York since 2000. Her expertise in all areas of Nepali and other South Asian dance forms and choreography have been well documented in both American and international press publications. She has also volunteered extensively in many production related activities: Rehearsal Direction, Education and Outreach. Binita served as a featured artist in many arts, cultural, and community programs throughout New York and beyond including: The Rubin Museum of Art, American Museum of Natural History, Pace University’s Summer Arts Program, Pratt Institute, Princeton University,United Nation, kathmandu Sajh, Manhattanville College and The Educational Alliance.

My wife Binita and I have lived with our extraordinary son Bibhu in the Elmhurst Area since 2000. Unfortunately, Binita was diagnosed with Non-specific interstitial lung disease. Then, since April 2011 even with oxygen, she couldn’t get dressed or walk from one room to another. After breathing tests, x-rays, and a cat scan of her lungs, the results showed that the disease had progressed and a lung transplant was going to be necessary.

She was evaluated at Columbia University Medical Center, and is now on the active waiting list for a duble lung transplant to enable a better quality of life. Transplantation is life saving, but very expensive. Not many families have the resources to meet the financial obligations of transplantation such as traveling expenses for pre- and post-surgery evaluations, as well as considerable expenses required to during the recovery period. Financing this procedure is a monumental task a challenge we cannot meet without support. At times like this, the help of friends, family, and community is greatly needed and appreciated to make the outcome successful.

To assist her with these out-of-pocket expenses, a fundraising campaign in Binita’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years.
