Blake Barrett

Dear Friends,

You may be aware that my friend Blake Barrett fell from a ladder on September 17th and now faces an uncertain future due to his brain injury and significant vision loss. His active life and career as a crane operator and small business owner of Hoist and Haul, LLC has been greatly altered.

Blake was hospitalized for two weeks post neurosurgery and is now in a rehabilitation program in Bellingham, WA receiving intensive therapy. He communicates well, has retained his cognition, and thankfully, his wry sense of humor. His biggest challenge revolves around his vision loss. Although Blake’s eyes were not damaged, the part of his brain that processes vision was severely damaged and consequently, Blake suffers from multiple vision issues. True to form, he is working hard and making progress. With the amazing support of his family and friends, especially his wife Ruth, his goal is to return home in several weeks.

Even with the Barrett’s health insurance, Blake will have many uninsured injury-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor’s visits, ongoing therapy and rehabilitation, loss of income, and home modifications to address Blake’s vision loss.

To help offset such expenses, a fundraising campaign in Blake’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. In 2000, they expanded their mission to include those who have sustained a catastrophic injury. All contributions are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Northwest Traumatic Brain Injury Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for injury-related expenses only.
