SULLY’S STORY
Bob “Sully” Sullivan is a great guy, husband, father, and a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. Always the patriarch, and lover of life, he found himself in an unfamiliar position this past December when diagnosed with a disease called ILD (Interstitial Lung Disease.). Essentially this disease causes scar tissue to build up in the lungs at an exceptional speed. Sully was on oxygen 24/7, couldn’t walk up stairs, and even getting dressed was an exhausting activity. His decline was rapid and terrifying. The only treatment/cure for this disease is a lung transplant. After many, many tests, and many setbacks, he was put on the lung transplant list and miraculously was matched with a donor within a week. Sully had a successful transplant on July 30th and his recovery is going very well so far.
That is the good news. The bad news is this is an incredibly expensive ordeal. Although his insurance will cover a fair portion of the expense, many co-pays and uninsured expenses remain. He will be spending a month in the hospital followed by several months of recovery at home that will include twice per week checkups with his doctor in Boston. In addition, he will need to take immunosuppressant medications for the rest of his life.
We have established a fundraising campaign with HelpHOPELive to help with Sully’s uninsured expenses. A highly regarded non-profit, HelpHOPELive has been assisting transplant patients for 30 years. We have chosen to fundraise with HelpHOPELive in part because they provide both tax-deductibility and fiscal accountability to contributors. All funds contributed are held and administered by HelpHOPELive to be used to pay or reimburse medically-related expenses only.
