Bobbette Waiters

Family and friends of Bobbette Waiters are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.

In April 2023, my aunt Bobbette started to experience shortness of breath and fatigue beyond normal. At first, she attributed it to her hectic job, working 12-hour shifts for four days a week. In May, she went on a family vacation to Disney World and suffered the same symptoms daily. It was at that time, she knew something was not right with her health.

After returning from vacation, she went to the emergency room, was admitted for two days, and discharged with a prescribed inhaler and steroids. My aunt returned to work with the support of her new medication. However, after two months on the medication, her health began to decline again. So, in September, she was readmitted to the hospital for several days for an extensive evaluation. After undergoing several tests, she was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis, a chronic and progressive disease that affects lung function. Now, her medical treatment includes the usage of supplemental oxygen 24/7, medication, and pulmonary rehabilitation.

Before her diagnosis, my aunt Bobbette was a vibrant and active person who loved cooking, gardening, and hosting her family and friends. She was the primary caregiver to her aging parents until their passing.

Today, my auntie is determined to overcome this disease and return to the life she loves with the support of her family, friends, and medical team. She is undergoing treatments to manage her symptoms and is a candidate for a life-saving double lung transplant. Her story is a reminder of how crucial it is to prioritize our health and seek medical attention when we experience unusual symptoms.
