Thanks for stopping by. My name is Grace, I’m 31 years old and I’m Disabled. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to do most of the things I love lately and I need help. If you read my update from June 17th, you’ll know that I’ve had 8 surgeries in the past 2 years and I am now gearing up for the biggest one since I was 13 (and hopefully the last one for a long time!).
My goals have shifted and changed because of my deteriorating health. I once wanted an off road wheelchair and the ability to go to the beach – now I need to make sure that I can get out of bed and afford a caregiver. I continue to work, but my health bills far outweigh my income. It’s my goal to continue to work, to keep fighting to be able to work- I enjoy working but I also know that I need my salary to survive. I’ve remained an active, outstanding position within my team and company throughout the past 8 surgeries. I don’t say that in pride, I wish I could take more time to heal my body, but that’s not how the system works in the US. So, I’ve adjusted my goal for a conservative estimate on my needs for the next 3 months while I recover from major surgery which is scheduled for July 15th. I will need to take a leave from work this time, and I am very apprehensive about that. But I have to put my health first now. This includes paying the caregiver, financial support as I’m off work, and paying for physical therapy while I recover as well. Even if I don’t get this amount met, any little bit will help! I’m very hopeful that after this surgery, I will be back to full throttle and able to re-engage in my life.
According to my calculations, the minimum costs which my income won’t cover over the next 3 months is $13,431 and the maximum cost is $16,671.
