Brandt Beights

Brandt was diagnosed with COPD about five years ago. He was a smoker most of his adult life and he had a couple of bouts of severe pneumonia that left his prognosis to be very bleak. He was advised at the time that he already had end stage COPD and given the condition of his lungs, he would only have six months to a year left. So, any chance of survival would be a lung transplant.

Brandt has one daughter that lives with him and helps him with day-to-day activities. He also has 2 brothers and a sister that are committed to doing whatever is necessary to help through this long and difficult journey.

Brandt’s life work has always been helping others. He was a plumber/contractor and an HVAC specialist. Besides helping others, he has always been an outdoorsman. He loves hunting, fishing and just being outdoors. He was born in the Pacific Northwest so he would love nothing more than to travel back and enjoy all the beauty and outdoor activities that it has to offer.

Brandt is fortunate to live in Oklahoma City where the transplant team is located and even more fortunate that he lives only minutes from the transplant hospital. Despite these blessings, as well as having insurance that covers many of the expenses of a transplant, there will be some that he just won’t be able to take care of. The lifelong immunosuppressant is extremely costly and won’t all be covered, so they are asking for a little assistance.

The impact of Brandt’s diagnosis has been significant in all areas of his life. The most difficult is becoming immobile and dependent on help from others while his condition and quality of life continue to worsen.

Brandt’s family and friends have chosen to help raise money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live in his honor to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.

They have chosen to fundraise for Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for contributions. Contributors can be sure donations will be used to pay or reimburse medical related expenses.
