Elaine Robinson

Brenda Robinson, better known as Elaine, is a 53-year-old woman who is very ill.

A double lung transplant is her only hope for survival, as she was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) in July of 2015. IPF is a chronic and ultimately fatal disease characterized by a progressive decline in lung function. The term pulmonary fibrosis means scarring of the lung tissue and causes worsening shortness of breath over time. Elaine’s condition has rapidly progressed, and she now requires full-time oxygen in order to breathe. Because of her illness, Elaine had to relocate her family to Florida to be active on the lung transplant list. Elaine is one of the kindest and hardest working people you’d ever hope to meet but the cost of transplant is overwhelming and she desperately needs your financial support to see her through her lung transplant!

Elaine grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas, then married her husband Bill. They are raising five beautiful grandchildren and together they are committed to seeing Elaine through her transplant. Elaine graduated from Capital City Junior College with an Associate’s degree in computer science and she later worked with a company called CARMLS, Inc. for almost 20 years. After Elaine was diagnosed with IPF, she was forced to choose to retire and relocate to Florida where lung transplants were much more common. At the recommendation of her physician, Elaine and her family chose to take her retirement funds and move to Florida; a state where she could get the medical attention that she would need to be activated on the lung transplant list. Elaine is undergoing extensive medical testing and is looking forward to receiving the gift-of-life through a lung transplant to take place at The Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.

Transplants are life-saving but financially draining. Even with health insurance, Elaine is facing very high out-of-pocket medical and transplant-related expenses including co-pays and deductibles, pre-transplant testing, lab fees, medical bills, and living expenses. Elaine will also be required to relocate for over four months to be closer to the Mayo Clinic Hospital once she has her lung transplant surgery. Post-transplant, anti-rejection medications will cost upwards of $2000 per month and Elaine will need to take these medications for the rest of her life.
