Loving Father and Ivy League Athlete Paralyzed

Brian McNally and his family are reaching out to you at a moment of incredible hardship and heartache. On Tuesday, June 21st, Brian – an incredible husband, father, son, brother, friend, athlete, and all-around tremendous person – had a terrible fall while working on his boat. He was so excited to get it ready to enjoy time on the water with his family this summer. When he fell, he broke his neck in three places, suffering a severe spinal cord compression. He was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital for emergency surgery, but there was nothing they could do to stop the paralysis. Brian is now paralyzed from the neck down.

Just 47-years-old, Brian is an incredibly active and present husband to Abby and father to his daughters Raegan and Margot. He loves watching his daughters’ gymnastics meets and is always the most positive and encouraging voice in their lives. His wife and daughters, along with his dad Rich, mom Angela, and sisters Terri and Tracy, have a very long road ahead. And, of course, Brian faces the toughest journey of all. So many of us know Brian for his incredible athleticism and passion for fun from the time we spent together playing lacrosse at Brown University. Others have wonderful memories growing up with Brian on Long Island where he was always the guy who put a smile on people’s faces and did as well in the classroom as he did on the field. Now in Arlington, MA, he is loved by his friends and community there. Brian is a person you feel proud to know. And that’s never going to change. The only thing that has changed are Brian’s circumstances. He and his family need our help. And we all know that if we needed his help, he’d be right there by our side.

As you can imagine, the cost of Brian’s medical care and long recovery journey are enormous. Even with some insurance coverage, the McNally family will face many out-of-pocket expenses such as acute inpatient rehabilitation costs, home and vehicle modifications to create a fully · wheelchair accessible home life for Brian, daily PT, OT, and other medical co-pays, medical equipment and supplies, and full-time home health care.
