DAUGHTER FACES FINANCIAL HARDSHIP AS SHE CARES FOR HER FATHER

Reality took a sharp turn a few months ago when my father, Brian, and I were informed that he would be needing a liver transplant in order to survive. Unfortunately, the first hospital denied my father of a liver due to him being a high risk patient. But I could not accept the idea of having to just wait for him to die. There had to have been somewhere else that would understand he deserves a second chance.

After calling numerous hospitals, Shands Hospital at University of Florida accepted my father as a patient to be reevaluated. It wasn’t long after his arrival when he soon qualified to be put on the transplant list and would soon receive a liver donor. This was a huge relief for the moment but as his discharge date neared, the stress increased. Being that my mother and I are his only family and means of financial support, I found myself scrambling to figure out how I was going to afford to care for him, while still providing for myself and paying my school tuition.

I cannot think of a more deserving person than my father to receive some relief and to make sure his recovery process goes as smooth as possible. Brian is a loving, caring father of 3 girls. My sisters and I have witnessed his pain and suffering over the years but he has never failed to show us love and affection. He has always put his family first no matter what. Aside from being a wonderful dad, he is also a friend and an employee at Isla Bella Spa in Marathon, Florida. There, he is a dedicated massage therapist who provides a healing touch to his clients. Brian is the kind of person who will give his shirt off his back to a stranger because he knows a life/childhood that lacked love, care and family. To say my father has been through many life obstacles is an understatement. But his drive and motivation to not give up and to become the best version of himself still stands strong.

So please, I ask you to share his story and donate what you can. While my dad has health insurance, many transplant expenses are not covered. This includes his monthly anti rejection medications he must take for the rest of his life in order to prevent his new liver from failing. The medication is being quoted at approximately $3,500 per month. Donations will also go towards his first 3 months post op living and caregiver expenses. Ultimately, your donation will give my father hope and a new chance at life. And maybe one day, he will be able to walk me down the aisle and perhaps become a grandfather to my future kids.
