Renewing Life: A liver transplant fundraiser for Brittany Peppler

I first met Brittany when she was just five years old, a kindergarten classmate of our daughter, Kaitie. Even then, there was something gentle and kind about her. Years later, when Brittany and our youngest son, Jacob, began dating, we couldn’t have been happier. It felt like life had come full circle.

Brittany is a caregiver by nature. Jacob has lived with juvenile diabetes since he was five years old, and as parents, you never stop worrying about your children, no matter how old they are. Knowing Brittany was by his side brought us a peace that’s hard to put into words. Her compassion doesn’t stop at home — Brittany works in the medical profession, where she helps care for others every single day. She loves deeply, gives selflessly, and later embraced Jacob’s son as her own. She also has a special place in her heart for animals and is a devoted pet mom to two dogs and a cat who adore her just as much as she adores them. That is who Brittany is, someone who cares for others, human or animal, without hesitation.

On January 12, Brittany was given a second chance at life through a life-saving liver transplant. While this miracle has filled our hearts with gratitude, it has also brought with it overwhelming medical and financial challenges we could never have anticipated.

Brittany’s health issues began in 2021, when unexplained symptoms slowly started to take a toll on her body. She had been battling complete liver failure caused by cirrhosis due to hemochromatosis, a genetic condition she never knew she carried. She also suffered from debilitating migraines starting at an early age and relied on over-the-counter pain relievers throughout her life just to function through the pain. By the time doctors discovered the underlying cause of her illness, her liver had already failed. Our hearts broke as we faced the unimaginable.

Eighteen months ago, doctors performed a critical procedure to reroute blood flow through her liver, buying her precious time—time we prayed would be enough. Brittany endured each day with quiet strength, unwavering faith, and hope that never faded.

In November, Brittany was placed on the transplant list. We waited, prayed, and held our breath each day, knowing a call could come at any moment—or not at all.

Then the call came.

When we were told that a liver had been found for Brittany, time seemed to stand still. Tears filled my eyes, and I fell to my knees in thanksgiving and gratitude. In that moment, fear gave way to faith, and despair was replaced with hope. Through the unimaginable loss and selfless generosity of another family, God answered our prayers.

While we are overwhelmed with gratitude for this miracle, the road ahead is long and challenging. Recovery from a liver transplant is physically, emotionally, and financially demanding. Even with insurance, the out-of-pocket costs for transplant recovery and lifelong care are significant and ongoing. Brittany now faces lifelong medications, frequent medical appointments, ongoing care, and time away from work as her body heals and adjusts. Being away from home during parts of her recovery has also meant time apart from her two beloved dogs and her cat, companions who have always brought her comfort and joy, and whose snuggles she misses more than words can say.

During this critical season of healing, we are humbly asking for help to ease the financial burden so Brittany can focus fully on recovery and on living the life she has been given back.

Donations will help with:

• Medical bills and anti-rejection medications • Travel and follow-up care • Lodging while she recovers near the hospital • Lost income during recovery • Everyday living expenses during this long healing journey

Brittany has spent her life caring for others. Today, we are asking for help caring for her.

If you feel called to help, please consider donating and sharing this page. Your support, especially right now, will make a meaningful difference during this crucial time in Brittany’s recovery. Any amount is appreciated. Keep Brittany, and the donor family who made this miracle possible, in your thoughts and prayers.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of Brittany’s story and for helping her hold on to this beautiful second chance at life.

With love, gratitude, and faith,

Brittany’s Family
