BRITTNEY’S LIFE

Hello, my name is Brittney Sanders, a resident of La Place, LA. I am a twenty-seven year old wife and mother of two beautiful little boys. I am currently battling a kidney disease and am in End-Stage Renal failure. It has been a real struggle going in and out of dialysis three times a week but this is keeping me alive. My family and I have tried to remain strong throughout this whole journey. However, between both my kidneys I only have five percent function. I was informed by my doctors at Tulane University Medical Center that I am in desperate need of a kidney transplant to survive.
This brings me to the purpose of my letter. I’ve gone through the extensive evaluation process and it was determined I am a good candidate for transplantation. However, the cost of the transplant surgery itself is staggering. Despite having insurance, many of my medical needs are not covered and must be paid out-of-pocket. I will need $10,000 before I can be placed on the active list. There will be the expense of traveling to and from the center and relocation costs at the time of transplant. This presents a challenge I cannot meet alone.
To help offset uninsured costs, a fundraising campaign in my honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All contributions are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southeast Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
