A Second Chance at Life: Help Brook Receive a Life-Saving Kidney Transplant

About Me

Hi, I’m Brook.

For nearly 16 years, dialysis has kept me alive. Three days a week, I spend hours connected to a machine that performs the work my kidneys can no longer do.

While dialysis has given me precious time, it has also taken a serious toll on my health. In 2021, I underwent double bypass surgery after developing significant heart complications.

A kidney transplant represents my best chance at a healthier future and a life beyond dialysis.

The Transplant That Almost Happened

On Christmas Day 2025, I received a call I had waited years to hear: A kidney was available.

I went to the hospital believing my life was about to change. But shortly after anesthesia began, my blood pressure dropped, and the transplant was canceled.

After coming so close, I now face another major challenge: finding a transplant center willing to evaluate my complex medical situation and give me another opportunity.

My case is complicated, but I refuse to give up.

Why I Need Your Help

While insurance may cover much of my medical care and transplant surgery, many necessary expenses may not be fully covered.

Funds raised through Help Hope Live can help with eligible transplant-related expenses, including:

• Travel for transplant evaluations and specialist appointments.

• Temporary lodging near a transplant hospital.

• Caregiver support during recovery.

• Transportation to follow-up appointments.

• Meals and other eligible expenses associated with treatment and recovery away from home.

• Additional expenses involved in pursuing evaluation at another transplant center.

These expenses can become significant barriers to receiving a transplant, particularly after nearly 16 years of living with kidney failure and limited financial resources.

Living Kidney Donation

I am also interested in connecting with potential living kidney donors.

My preferred donor blood type is O, but other blood types may still be worth exploring because transplant centers can sometimes evaluate options such as paired kidney exchange.
