Bruce Jones

For decades, Coach Bruce Jones has been a fixture in our Columbus community. As everyone’s favorite basketball coach since elementary school, he taught youth more than the game — he taught them teamwork, discipline, and confidence. He has always been known for his encouragement, humor, and unwavering support. Generations of families still call him simply, “Coach.”

Now, at 64, Coach Jones is facing the biggest challenge of his life. After years of living with Sarcoidosis — a rare inflammatory disease that causes lung scarring — and consistent use of external oxygen for the last 5+ years, he experienced complete end-stage lung failure in December 2024. After several bouts in the ICU, he was thankfully approved for a double lung transplant at Cleveland Clinic. In a life-saving 6-hour procedure on August 31, 2025, Coach Jones received his new lungs and a second chance at life.

Throughout this journey, Coach Jones has reminded us all to “Walk by Faith,” demonstrating the same strength and belief that has inspired his family and community for decades. His unwavering trust in God, an amazing medical team, and the love of family has been pushing us all forward.

“I’m ready to get back to cheering on my kids and grandkids — and maybe even get back on the court to teach a few more life lessons,” says Coach Jones with his characteristic optimism.

Why We’re Fundraising

Coach Jones faces a 6-month intensive recovery period, followed by lifelong monitoring to prevent organ rejection. His family is raising funds through Help Hope Live, a 501c3 non-profit, to cover critical expenses, including:

*Temporary housing near Cleveland Clinic, 2.5 hours from home, during recovery monitoring.

*Co-insurance and out-of-pocket medical costs for transplant and ongoing care.

*Transportation and travel expenses for frequent Cleveland appointments.

*Emergency and complication costs should setbacks occur.

These needs are expected to reach $15,000 or more.
