Imagine sitting across the desk from a doctor as she tells you that despite your best efforts, your kidneys are quickly and quietly shutting down. Imagine staring down the face of an abdominal catheter and daily dialysis because they are functioning so poorly. Imagine that your only other option is the gift of a kidney transplant from a living donor.

For Caitlin Gross this is a reality, because she has a genetically inherited condition called Medullary Kidney Disease Type One, which has also stricken her mother and has the potential to affect all three of her beautiful young daughters. If Caitlin were an entry in Webster’s Dictionary, she would be described by words such as determined, devoted, faithful and affectionate. Perhaps you would even see hilarious, tenacious, and selfless… a beloved daughter and nurturing mother. She is the adoring wife of a dedicated and loving husband, Brandon, who serves his country bravely in the U.S. Air Force and is often away from home. But above all else, you would see the word survivor.

Imagine that you could help ensure a continuation of her story…a story filled with love and determination. Caitlin has faith that a living kidney donor will be found and that very soon, she will receive her “gift of life.” Even with insurance, Caitlin will have many uninsured transplant-related expenses such as: co-pays and deductibles, doctor visits and the costly immunosuppressant medications that she will need to take for the rest of her life. Moreover, what Caitlin wants, second only to her transplant, is the ability to cover her living donor’s expenses.

To help with this financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Caitlin’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the South-Atlantic Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
