GREAT NEWS! Caitie received the gift of life – a new liver – on October 26, 2015 She is doing well and is being released from the hospital soon. Keep checking back for updates.

Caitie Bailey, the daughter of DeWayne and Laura Bailey has become very ill as a result of a liver disease that she was born with called Biliary Atresia. Most people born with Biliary Atresia need a liver transplant early in life or never live past the age of two. Caitie, being the strong willed person that she is, has beat those odds by many years; however, now her doctors have said she will need a liver transplant. She has been listed for transplant and is currently hospitalized at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston.

Caitie grew up in Jena, Louisiana and graduated from Jena High School. She attended Central Louisiana Technical College in hopes of becoming an LPN; however, her education has been put on hold for a while. Caitie eagerly looks forward to returning to school so she can graduate and start on her degree to become an RN. She wants to help others with medical needs, just as others have helped her. Caitie’s parents, along with her siblings – Caroline, Catherine and Claire – are committed to seeing her through this transplant.

Transplants are lifesaving but financially draining. Even with insurance, Caitie is facing very high expenses, including getting her body healthy enough for transplant. Once she is healthy enough and receives a liver transplant, she will have post-transplant expenses as well, including travel to and from Houston, hospital bills, and her immunosuppressant medications. The medications alone could cost up to $5,000 per month for the rest of her life, not to mention co-pays, lab fees and more.
