Camarr Needs Your Help

Camarr Smith is a 5 month old baby boy who at 2 months was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia, a life-threatening liver disease. Biliary Atresia occurs when the bile ducts fail to drain from the liver. Camarr underwent a quasi-operation to try and correct the condition, which proved to be unsuccessful. We were then informed by his doctors that a life-saving liver transplant would be necessary and he was immediately placed on the transplant list at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida.

As you can well imagine, costs for the transplant and related expenses are astronomical. Even with insurance, there will be many uninsured medically-related expenses such as travel and relocation expenses for 3 months, co-pays and deductibles and the costly immunosuppressant medications that Camarr will need to take for the rest of his life (and can range from $1,000 – $2,500 a month). Furthermore, due to this relocation and the time needed to care for Camarr, I will need to take an unpaid leave of absence from my job.

In order to assist with these extraordinary expenses, a fundraising campaign in Camarr’s honor has been established with Help Hope Live. Help Hope Live is a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for more than 30 years. Camarr is 10 months old and has received his liver transplant, unfortunately he is still undergoing the recovery process.
