Carl Simpson

Carl Simpson needs a lifesaving heart transplant, and desperately needs the help of his community to make it happen. Carl was diagnosed with a severe case of Cardiomyopathy; a condition where the heart muscle is abnormal, making it harder to pump and deliver blood to the rest of the body. Cardiomyopathy can lead to heart failure, and without a new heart, Carl’s condition will continue to progress and he will quickly run out of time.

Carl has been married to his loving wife Brenda for almost 30 years. They live in Huntsville, Alabama, and have two daughters Elizabeth and E’Lecia. Carl graduated from Alabama A&M University with a degree in Computer Science. He has worked very hard his whole life to support his family, and feels blessed to have provided a stable home for his wife and kids, while working in a career that he absolutely loves. In his free time, Carl loves to spend time with his family and friends, go fishing, hunting and even travel. However, Carl’s life is on hold until he receives his lifesaving transplant. More than ever, he looks forward to the day he can resume the life he once knew and live long enough to see his daughters grow into adulthood, and someday have children of their own.

Transplants are lifesaving but very expensive. Co-pays and deductibles, anti-rejection medications, caregiver fees, lodging, food, medical bills, and lab fees are quickly adding up to more than Carl and his family can handle alone. As Carl tries to live each day and function with a heart that is not functioning properly, he has been traveling to and from Vanderbilt Hospital to begin the evaluation and testing process for his transplant. On October 15th, he was officially listed as “active” and is one step closer to his surgery. Carl will be out of work for an extended period of time, and is required to live in close proximity to Vanderbilt for six weeks after his surgery. Temporary housing costs upwards of $3500/month. Carl is also in desperate need of dependable transportation to and from Vanderbilt during the months following his transplant. In the midst of his illness, many sleepless nights, frequent visits to the emergency room, cardio-therapy visits, kidney problems, and severe fatigue, Carl is fortunate to maintain working full time. But it really pains him that he will not be able to provide for his family in the next coming months–therefore, he is asking for financial help me with his out-of-pocket medical and transplant-related expenses.
