Carla Campbell

My name is Carla Campbell. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis on December 22, 2010, an early Christmas present. I was 29 years old and had a one-year-old daughter to think about. I was working as a director at a homeless shelter. A stem cell transplant is my only hope for survival. The cost of all the medical bills and procedures can be overwhelming. This is where I need your help.

I graduated in 2007 with my Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services and Consumer Sciences with an emphasis on Child and Family Development degree. I hold a directors’ license in Children Services and thought I had a long career ahead of me until the diagnosis came. I had no idea what to expect and was scared to death. My doctor told me I had so many lesions on my brain it wasn’t worth counting and immediately sent a nurse to train me on every other day injections. I have lost some things along the way but one thing remains the same. I have always had faith that everything would be okay. I have lost my ability to walk and my eye sight but through prayer and faith it came back. I have lost my ability to be the parent that I was and lost a lot of relationships due to brain damage because it makes it hard for me to connect to others.

I can no longer work and pray that will change with a stem cell transplant. Transplants can be lifesaving but financially draining. I am doing fundraisers and raising money to get the stem cell transplant because I know that it will start to heal some of the damage I have on my brain. Through all the pain, headaches, changes, pins and needles, and heat intolerance to name a few I remain a fighter. MS will not win my battle because it is already
