Carla Modrell

Dear Friends, Family and Community,

My mother, Carla Modrell is a 48, a loving mother to three children and fun grandmother of two. Carla suffers from End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) and is now in need of her 2nd life-saving kidney transplant.

Soon after the birth of her third child Carla’s kidneys began to fail. She was diagnosed with ESRD and started on dialysis. In 2005 she received the gift of life, a kidney transplant. She was able to return to school, complete her degree and begin a full time career all the while raising her children.

Last year, Carla’s health rapidly declined. Her new kidney started to fail; she is now back on dialysis and is unable to work. Her doctors at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle have told us that she is in need of another life-saving kidney transplant.

This is where your help is desperately needed. Even with the insurance, there are many expenses that are not covered and must be paid out of pocket. Some of these are co-pays, deductibles, travel to the transplant center and relocation expenses at the time of transplant. In addition, Carla will continue to be on a life-time of anti-rejection medications. This puts our family up against a challenge we cannot meet alone and your help is needed.

A fundraising campaign in Carla’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Northwest Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
