Carlos Leon

Family and friends of Carlos Leon are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a Transplant. Carlos has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax deductible for contributors and will only be used to cover medical and related expenses.

My name is Carlos, but I prefer to be called Charlie. Despite being diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at the age of 9 months, I have strived to lead a normal life. I have managed my condition through medication and physical therapy. However, in December 2025, I unfortunately suffered respiratory failure and was also diagnosed with chronic bronchiectasis and congenital heart disease. I was approved for a double lung transplant and am currently eagerly awaiting the availability of a suitable donor.

In my free time, I enjoy playing poker and enjoy watching sports. I cherish spending quality time with my family and am known for my outgoing nature. Additionally, I have a passion for collecting Jordan’s sneakers and can talk about shoes for hours. 

Since my respiratory failure and other medical complications led to my intubation and placement on an ECMO machine, I’ve shown improvement and am now on the waiting list for a double lung transplant. However, I still need to stay in the hospital until I receive the call for my new lungs. In the meantime, I’m actively working to prepare my body for the transplant by undergoing physical therapy, following a high-calorie diet, and taking medication.

I’m fundraising to cover the cost of lodging near my transplant team, as I’ll need to stay nearby for at least a month after my discharge from the hospital. My team and I estimate this will cost around $10,000, or possibly more if I encounter any setbacks. Additionally, I’m raising funds to cover some of my bills since I haven’t been working.

I genuinely hope that my double lung transplant will enable me to return to my regular life. I am looking forward to going back home and resuming my daily activities.
