Carolie Needs Our Help!

Carolie Kenney has been suffering with a rare autoimmune disease called Sarcoidosis for nearly twenty years. She has now reached the point where her lungs can no longer supply her with enough oxygen; a lung transplant is her only chance for survival. Always with a very positive attitude, Carolie still goes to the gym every day to keep her physical condition up for the challenges ahead. However, she is going to need our help with the massive financial cost lung transplants incur.

Carolie grew up in Rockport, Massachusetts and graduated from Rockport High in the early seventies. She attended Thomas College in Waterville Maine earning a degree in Fashion Retail Merchandising. Thomas College is also where Carolie met Peter, her husband of thirty nine years. Working various jobs over the years, including creating and designing skating and dance costumes while raising their four kids, Carolie has strived to maintain a healthy lifestyle for herself and her family. Unfortunately, she was unable to avoid this rare and devastating disease. Now with five beautiful grandchildren to dote on, Carolie is more determined than ever to be there for them. A lung transplant will give her that opportunity.

Recovering from a lung transplant is a long and difficult journey on its own, and the financial aspects are daunting. Medical copays, anti-rejection medications that she will have to take for the rest of her life, lost work days for medical check-ups, and care-giver expenses for several months post-transplant and other hidden cost can become overwhelming.

To help with the financial burden of Carolie’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Northeast Lung Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only.
