Carol Needs Your Help!

My wife, Carol Anderson, is just 63 years old and needs a lifesaving kidney transplant to survive. She suffers from a rare genetic disorder called Alport syndrome. This illness is characterized by progressive kidney disease and abnormalities of the ears and eyes. Because of its heredity nature, family members have been eliminated as potential kidney donors. Though this is the case, Carol is currently seeking a living donor match. Currently, she is on the kidney transplant waiting list at UNC.

Carol grew up in Morganton as did I. We have a son, Travis and two wonderful grandchildren, Lawson who is 19 years old and Alison who is 16. Carol and I love spending time with them, camping, hiking and going on vacation. Basically, anything outdoors. But now with kidney disease, Carol is unable to be as active and she desperately misses those special moments. Carol is a kind and generous person who is always helping others. This time she needs your help.

If Carol does not receive a new kidney soon, she will have to start dialysis. The medical cost for co-pays and for the many doctors’ fees, lab work and anti-rejection medications once she receives her new kidney are great. She needs to take immunosuppressants for the rest of her life. Carol’s family is very committed to helping her with this struggle but she needs your help too.

To help with the financial burden of Carol’s uninsured expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for 40 years. Carol’s older brother Randy was only 50 years old when he was diagnosed with the same disease. He died two years later.
