Charlotte Mulliniks

Charlotte was in a critical motorcycle accident in August 2012 which left her as a tetraplegic. She has a wheel chair for everyday use, but she needs a specialized standing wheelchair that will allow her more independence and health improvements. A standing chair will enable Charlotte to stand at the kitchen counter to make dinner for her family, stand at a changing table to change her baby and many other daily tasks that most of us take for granted. A standing chair will also help keep circulation flowing, eliminate pressure point sores, reduce muscle spasticity and increase bone density.

Even with insurance, Charlotte is facing extraordinary out of pocket expenses including rehabilitation expenses, assistive devices like the specialized standing wheel chair, an accessible modified car/van, and additional therapies. The initial fundraising goal is for the specialized standing wheelchair. In the event we reach that goal, we will set a new goal for the modified vehicle. As a mother of three young children, it is very important for Charlotte to have a sense of independence and the ability to transport herself and her children to appointments, events, or just a trip to the park.

To help offset such expenses, a fundraising campaign in Charlotte’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. In 2000, they expanded their mission to include those who have sustained a catastrophic injury. All contributions are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Northwest Spinal Cord Injury Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for injury-related expenses only.
