Dear Friends and Family,

Imagine spending all day, everyday reading or watching TV because your lungs no longer have the capacity to allow you the simple pleasures of coffee out with a friend or a visit to your family. You have to depend on others to do your shopping or laundry. A simple trip to the doctor’s office requires 2 portable oxygen tanks and someone to drive and assist you. Well that is what life is like for our sister, Cheryl.

Cheryl was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis over ten years ago. Her doctors put her on disability immediately. Her condition has steadily worsened over the years because there is no cure for this disease. Treatments only slow the progression of the disease and partially alleviate the symptoms.

Cheryl has reached the point where she now needs a double lung transplant to survive. Organ transplantation is very expensive. There are many expenses not covered by insurance. The recovery period for a lung transplant, barring complications, is four months. The medications following the transplant are costly and will be needed for the rest of Cheryl’s life. This is a burden that Cheryl can not meet without your help.
