Family and friends of Christina Cahill are joining to help cover the uninsured medical costs of her life-saving stem cell transplant.

Christina’s crisis

Two months ago, everything in Christina’s life changed. A fluke allergic food reaction led to a blood test, which revealed advanced AML leukemia. Aggressive chemotherapy began within hours. Within a few weeks, she had a brain port inserted into her scalp so that the chemo could directly target the cancer that had spread to areas in her brain and spinal cord.

For those of us who know and love her, she is beyond adored. We love her because she’s fun, gives great advice, and is there whenever the tough times come. But today Christina is the one who needs support.

The good news is that medically speaking, Christina is in great hands at Cedars-Sinai. They have pivoted and improvised as the cancer tries to outsmart, outrun, and overtake her treatments. But Christina is young for this disease. She’s strong. And thanks to incredibly generous donor-matches, she is preparing for a stem cell transplant that will once and for all knock this hideous disease to the ground.

Christina’s treatment and upcoming transplant is mostly covered. But her insurance won’t cover the after-care that is a prerequisite for the surgery, and that is crucial to her recovery. Christina will need 24-hour home health care support and a sterile environment post-transplant.

Together, we want to ease at least some of the the worry and strain on the Cahills as they navigate the uncharted waters of her cancer and hope for safe passage.
