Chris: On Purpose

A Journey of Resilience, Recovery, and Hope

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”  -Philippians 4:13

Meet Chris

Before you read another word, know this: Chris is not defined by what happened to him. He is defined by who he has always been, a charismatic, kind-hearted, and genuinely generous soul who has spent his entire life being a bright light for everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Chris is an avid music enthusiast who loves every genre unapologetically. He is the kind of person who could hop on public transit and walk away with three new friends by the end of the ride. He is someone who will talk with you for hours about everything and nothing and make you feel like the most interesting person in the room. He rode his bike through the city, enjoyed playing basketball, and never missed an opportunity to make his family and friends laugh. His nephews adore him. Pets are drawn to him. And anyone who has ever needed a helping hand has known they could count on Chris.

What Happened in 2022

In 2022, Chris suffered a stroke that resulted in right-sided hemiparesis, aphasia, and apraxia, conditions that have significantly impacted his ability to walk, stand, and talk with clarity and ease. In a matter of moments, many of the things that brought Chris the most joy was placed just out of reach. But Chris did not stop. He never stopped.

The Challenge He Faces

Chris has been engaging in intensive physical therapy, and it is working! But this specialized rehabilitation is not covered by insurance, meaning every session has come at a direct, out-of-pocket cost to him. Over time, these costs have become unsustainable. The financial burden of recovery should never stand between someone and the healing they deserve. And yet, that is exactly the crossroads Chris is standing at today.

What This Campaign Makes Possible

With your generous support, Chris can sustain and expand the intensive physical therapy sessions that are actively rebuilding his strength moving him closer to standing freely, walking with confidence, speaking with clarity, reclaiming moments with his nephews, and authoring a new chapter of life entirely on his own terms.

Chris’s hope is not abstract. It is specific. He hopes to walk more freely. To speak more easily. To ride his bike again. To play with his nephews the way he used to. To build a new normal one that looks and feels like the life he loves, on his own terms, with his own independence. That vision is not out of reach. It is within sight. And with continued intensive physical therapy, it is absolutely possible. Chris’s progress thus far is a testament to his strength, his spirit, and his absolute refusal to give up.

How You Can Help: Please donate to Help Hope Live in Chris’s honor today. Every contribution regardless of size moves him one step closer to the life he is working so hard to rebuild. Once you have given, please share this campaign with your friends and family and ask them to give, too.

Chris has never stopped showing up for the people he loves. Now is our chance to show up for him.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for your generous support.
