Collin Kleditz

My fiancé, Collin Kleditz was injured in July of 2013 in an ATV accident. His C6-7 vertebrae were fractured leaving him breathing through a ventilator, with no leg function and limited hand and arm function. The treatment he has received over the past year has kept him alive but has not adequately helped to advance his situation. Through a referral from the Christopher and Dena Reeve Foundation, we discovered Craig Hospital in Denver, a place that will help Collin increase his strength, independence and overall health.

Becoming a quadriplegic was not Collin’s first challenge. He was born with cerebral palsy, yet learned to walk with a walker, then without one, then learned to drive and lead a regular life. Before the accident he was a student at Fox Valley Technical College, studying I.T., a passion that stems from his love of gadgets, the internet, and gaming.

Collin shares a love for life like most people spend their whole life trying to earn. A stubbornness that challenges the things he doesn’t believe to be true. Like the limitations set by spinal cord injury. He is a person who loves hands on projects. He likes to challenge himself in new and innovative ways, and since his accident he has not been home, and can’t do those things he loves.

Trauma can strike at any given time, when you least expect it. Collin and I have been engaged for one year on Christmas, and together for six. At twenty-five years old, we were on the edge of starting our lives together. Together we are not looking back, but forward. Many people have shared with me that Collin is the most kind, caring, and compassionate person they know.

We have received so much love and support from our surroundings, but unfortunately there comes a time when your resources are limited, and we have to seek other options to give him the best chance at recovery.

Though Collin is on Medicare, we are facing huge expenses to move to Colorado so that Collin can seek treatment at Craig Hospital. The flights, rent, and large deductible are more than we can handle alone.
